Does‌ ‌Artificial‌ ‌Grass‌ ‌Freeze‌ ‌in‌ ‌Cold Climates?‌

Now that winter has come with all the dark nights and frosty mornings, also comes the ice which normally makes your garden kind of slippery. This is the time where you might feel that the fibers of your artificial grass freeze due to wet and cold weather conditions. Now, a legit question, often asked is, does artificial grass freeze in winters?

In this blog, we will tell you is that really the case? Does winter freeze artificial grass in cold climates or can it be damaged by winters?

Let’s dive in!

Artificial Grass in Cold Climates

In winter, artificial grass may become slippery because of snow and ice, and it can cause the fibers to freeze but it doesn’t have anything to do with damaging your fake turf. Wonder how?

Fake Turf and Winters

The first thing to be certain of is that synthetic turf is made from such material that it can withstand extreme variations, including heat waves or cold weather. It requires less maintenance as compared to real lawn which makes it green and fresh all year round. So fake turf is more resilient as compared to real lawns.

The second thing is that the fake turf is not going to freeze to a point where its fibers or blades become brittle and break. But it is important to note that when the grass fibers become stiff due to the snow/ice, it is not safe to walk on these blades because you may hurt yourself. A thin layer of snow or ice is fine to walk on fake turf but be careful if it is thick as snow can be compacted into ice and can potentially break your grass fibers.

Conclusion

For artificial grass in cold climates, we always recommend you allow the ice or snow to melt and drain away before you walk on it. Also, we don’t recommend you to use salt to melt snow, because it can clog the drainage system of your turf.
