Common Artificial Grass DIY Mistakes to Avoid

These days, due to the extensive use of artificial grass outdoors and indoors, it has become very simple to install artificial grass. Nowadays, people prefer the DIY installation of artificial grass.

But it can go wrong really easily with small mistakes. We have listed common mistakes to avoid artificial grass DIY mistakes in this blog, make sure to read through!

Artificial Grass DIY Mistakes

Mistake # 1: Groundwork

The first artificial grass DIY installation mistake is the insufficient groundwork. Simply laying artificial grass on an uneven ground surface won’t do the right job. We always recommend doing the excavation of 100mm (4 inches) and removing almost 75mm (3 inches) of ground before laying artificial turf.

This will include the existing grass and weed membrane.

Mistake # 2: Joints

There is no universal rule when it comes to joining artificial grass. Poor joints in artificial turf can be a result of using too much adhesive or using a salvage as joint tape. We recommend you remove the excess adhesive using a brush cleaner so that no dirt and sand stick to it making it a poor joint.

Also, don’t forget to cut the edges to achieve the perfect joint.

Mistake # 3: Securing the Edges

The next artificial grass DIY installation mistake to avoid is the folding and securing of artificial turf edges to timber frames. If it is not done properly, it will leave an ugly edge exposed which later will cause ripples along the edges.

Fixing artificial turf over timber frames is always recommended.

Mistake # 4: Sand Infill

The last artificial grass DIY mistakes include that many installers skip the sand infill part to reduce installation time and save some money. But having infill with sand underneath your fake turf is of many benefits. It protects the grass against sharp objects, dog claws, and keeps the grass in place for a longer time.
